Strain: Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki strain S1450 (Deposited in the Culture Collection of Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology)Group: Microbiological insecticideProduct registered for the control of Cottonseed Curuquerê (Alabama argillacea), Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), Soybean armyworm (Anticarsia gemmatalis) and False looper (Chrysodeixis includens).
Differential
This microbiological insecticide acts by ingesting its target. Insects ingest spores that are encapsulated inside crystals, which infect the host insects. After being digested by the insect, the crystals dissolve, releasing toxic proteins that destroy the membrane of the midgut (midgut) and allow the proliferation of bacterial cells. The crystals dissolve only under alkaline pH conditions, which are found in the intestines of certain insects, such as caterpillars. Several toxins can be released after the crystal dissolves, but only the so-called Cry proteins (from “crystal”) have an insecticidal effect. Although the insect may take a few days to die, feeding stops soon after ingesting the crystals.
Instructions for Use
It can be applied as a spray using conventional aerial or ground application equipment, using an adequate volume of water to ensure good coverage. The success of BioBac T in controlling insects is related to the coverage of the leaves during application, so the application must provide a uniform distribution of the product over all parts of the leaves where the caterpillars will feed.
